Belgian designer Dries Van Noten was born in Antwerp to a family closely connected to the fashion industry: his grandfather was a tailor, his father owned a studio, and his mother collected rare lace and vintage lingerie. While studying fashion at the Royal Academy, Van Noten began working with local brands, which allowed him to gain his first skills and confidence. His talent was recognized when he won the Young Designers Competition twice. In 1986, he presented his first independent collection, and a year later held his first show in London.
Dries Van Noten's style is an organic combination of boho-chic, ethnic motifs and abstractionism. But despite the richness of colors and patterns, Dries masterfully balances between brightness and restraint, avoiding excess. His travels around the world become a source of inspiration, enriching each collection with unique national features and cultural elements.
In 2018, a controlling stake in Dries Van Noten was acquired by the Spanish company Puig. However, Dries remains the creative director and chairman of the board of directors, retaining influence on the creative direction. Despite the change of ownership, the brand's style has remained unchanged. Experts do not rule out that the brand may become even more elite, which may affect its pricing policy.
Dries Van Noten clothing is a combination of comfortable cut, simplicity of forms and richness of details. Elements of ethnic motifs, designer prints and unexpected accents create a unique style aimed at intellectuals, creative individuals and those who value individuality.
